BND173D Posted March 10, 2022 #1 Posted March 10, 2022 THESE CAME WITH A GROUP OF USMC ITEMS . WERE THESE EVER MADE LIKE THAT ALL THE USMC TAGS I HAVE EVER SEEN WERE OVAL. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.
digi-shots Posted March 16, 2022 #2 Posted March 16, 2022 New to me…. I’ve never seen tags without a service number…plus never seen tags with a rank. He might have had these made up to use as a name tag for his equipment, etc.
USMCR79 Posted March 16, 2022 #3 Posted March 16, 2022 I have seen many official USMC & USN Tags to Officers with rank and w/o service number - they are out there but not that common Bill
BND173D Posted March 17, 2022 Author #6 Posted March 17, 2022 thanks everyone for the info. has anyone seen where usmc used army style dog tags in ww2 era
cperkins510 Posted March 17, 2022 #7 Posted March 17, 2022 It did happen, although it was not very common. Almost all of the ones I have seen (and most of the ones documented on the forum) belonged to members of the First Marine Division. Not all though. According to the muster roles, your man might be Edgar S Carlson who served with the First Armored Amphibian Battalion from October 1943 to war’s end. But this unit was not part of the First Marine Division. Your tags are also stamped a little differently than the WWII USMC tags on army stock I have seen, so hard to tell exactly what to conclude here.
Wharfmaster Posted March 18, 2022 #8 Posted March 18, 2022 May have been made in an Army Hospital or perhaps aboard a troop transport ship. W
BND173D Posted March 24, 2022 Author #9 Posted March 24, 2022 THANK YOU ALL , FOR ALL THE INFORMATION. ED
