dmar836 Posted March 10, 2022 #1 Posted March 10, 2022 Was wondering if I could get some advice. I have this unremarkable socket set box marked USAAF and think it came from a deceased friend who donated his tools to our vintage aircraft club. I'm pretty sure there are war era Snap on, Plumb, and other tools in the many rolling boxes we received. I'm fairly confident this was a 1/4" drive ratchet set simply based on size and pattern. Anyone completed one of these? The club loses and misplaces many tools and/or they walk off as "borrowed" as is common especially when things aren't paid for but that's for another time. Would like to know what to look for while digging through all the sockets, etc. before the war-era tools are all lost. They have no knowledge or concern for the dates so I may be too late but I'll try to find the right ones. I shoudl say the ones I've seen discussed on G503 are rounded boxes and not USAAF marked. There is also little room in this one. Dave
mohawkALSE Posted March 10, 2022 #2 Posted March 10, 2022 Thats really cool, makes ya wonder how many simple little old school boxes like that people have seen over the years and never thought twice to see it was USAAF marked and passed em over. Def want to see that complete if you ever get to finding all the pieces to it or even just more info.
phantomfixer Posted July 29, 2022 #3 Posted July 29, 2022 How did I miss this Dave.. looks like a midget socket set 1/4 drive set or possibly a 9/32 drive set I would fill it with 1/4 drive WF marked plomb sockets/ratchet... neat ....to say the least S-K and Snap On... used a similar box...
AZPhil Posted July 29, 2022 #4 Posted July 29, 2022 I have seen these in the past, I agree with Phantomfixer about the 1/4 in driver and sockets size. It's great it has the USAAF stamped on it. Semper Fi Phil
phantomfixer Posted July 29, 2022 #5 Posted July 29, 2022 An S-K midget set 1940s similar box with the SK decal if you go the SK route, I have a few spares for you
dmar836 Posted October 11, 2022 Author #6 Posted October 11, 2022 Been gone from the forum a few months. Thanks for the generous offer. Dave
