KingsMountainTigers Posted March 9, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2022 I'd like to post this bayonet in honor of Auguste J Boibeaux who brought it home from the Pacific Theater. With the help of others on the forum I was able to find a good amount of history on where he served. Auguste was a Coxswain and served with the 25th Special Seabees. They departed for New Guinea on April 28th, 1944 aboard the USS Monticello. They would soon disembark at Naval Base #717 in Milne Bay, New Guinea. While stationed there, he picked up a souvenir. He stamped his name and serial number on the bayonet six times. I would assume he did this so that someone else wouldn't steal it and take it home as war trophy. The bayonet appears to be a Type 30, early style, Tokyo arsenal, serial number 395056. Overall, the bayonet is in pretty good shape and appears to have some battle damage on the scabbard. I was super stoked to find one of these bayonets with some providence. Please enjoy the photos and history. All comments welcomed!
