Nice size photo of a P-47 flying over Hitlers house 9 days after the war.

If anyone knows anything about the squadron involved please let me know.

This photo is one of several.

Nice pic!

I'd say 57th FG / 65th FS based on the tail markings and nose art.

Possibly P47D-30-RE 44-21056 'Jeanie'?

Many thanks for that ID.

I was thinking it might have been a photo reconnaissance unit.

I believe the nose art is Indian warrior.

Pretty sure that's the squadron insignia. A red fighting c o c k. Forum might replace that if i made it one word. I believe the art was taken from a whiskey of a simialr name.  57th FG had a thing about their squadron insignia being on the nose. My 57th pilot was out of the war by then,  but his P40s and P47s had a scorpion on the nose for the 64th.

As i recall... the 65th's officer's club had a wing made out of a German plane's wing. I think it also served as a kill board. Had the men, their victories, and the red rooster insignia. My 64th guy had a large poster of it. Remind me and I'll post a pic of it here.
