usmc1981 Posted March 7, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2022 Saw this out there, think cover legit, not sure about helmet as not enough details shown. Thoughts?

Blacksmith Posted March 7, 2022 Share #7 Posted March 7, 2022 I don’t see any problems from those pics. WWII liner with rank grommet and early khaki-colored suspension. It even looks like the “46” is done in USMC stencil.
mdk0911 Posted March 7, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 7, 2022 the cover is good - not sure this cover is original to the helmet and liner - I wish they wouldn't taken the cover off and displayed both sides with the cover on. is the liner repainted? manayunkman Posted March 7, 2022 Share #10 Posted March 7, 2022 The helmet looks like swivel bail. The liner has been repainted and used to be red. Could it be from HQ Marine VMF-134?
Blacksmith Posted March 7, 2022 Share #11 Posted March 7, 2022 Well, it’s over $850, with eight + hours to go. Time for you to jump in manny. Act on that tip! 👀
doyler Posted March 7, 2022 Share #12 Posted March 7, 2022 seen this pop up on face book. Just another GW auction gone ballistic. Nice I can still find stuff in the sticks for way less money. You should see the $30 one I found waiting for me on a table under the tree sat the fleamarket. I had hit that show since the mid 79s with my dad for years. Then there it was from afar I see the familiar pattern and the rest is history. The story was even better. The old boy had had a couple dozen helmets and all came out of a "unit" he said where he retired to in Arkansas. THis was the last one he had left. I bought every military item he had left on his table along with a flag to a medical battalion.Much more fun to find stuff and meet the people who are selling the itemsthan fish the hokie on line auctions. There is way more to find and stuff is pouring out of the fileds here. I dont even have a secret surplus store....
ww2collector1944 Posted March 8, 2022 Share #13 Posted March 8, 2022 This is interesting. The helmet above has stenciling just like a helmet I picked up recently. I bought this helmet for $60 from the grandson of a wwii veteran (sadly with no provenance). Is the stenciling on my helmet USMC stenciling? Thank you! I remember the days when you would find stuff like this in the Goodwill stores for $20 or less. Before the internet...
