338thRCT Posted March 6, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 6, 2022 These photos are from the University of Southern California Library archives and show US Marines in exercises in California in the early 1950's. Also some NCO pilots and aircrew known as "The Flying Peons".

lambo35 Posted March 24, 2022 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2022 I believe the last picture was taken at the Marine Air Station, Santa Ana, CA, just outside the lighter than air [blimp] hanger. Chuck
patches Posted April 19, 2022 Share #6 Posted April 19, 2022 Great photos 338, I posted one awhile back and posed the question of whether these choppers are Navy Sea Blue or Olive Drab.

Chuck I would agree with that location. As a kid I spent a lot of time at El Toro Air Station and LTA with the hangers. Back in the 60s/70s I knew a collector in Santa Ana who had put together a nice set of several "Flying Peons" patches. His name was Al Herrera. I believe he sold the patches before he moved to Texas later on.
