Robski Posted February 18, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2022 Hello I came across this NVA Banner purportedly captured during the Tet Offensive in 1968 by members of Seal Team II. It says "NVA 1st Div" and "NVA 1st Div., 1st Rgt Spearhead Unit - Led Tet Offensive" Can't find any info on that Unit. Could it be a VC banner? It is signed by several people but I can only make out "Lt. Williams". USN N.I.L.O., Seal Team 2? Some things have been blacked out. The only reference I can find of Seal Team II during Tet was in My Tho at the Carter Hotel. Also, mentions China Lake, CA. Special Ops, Intelligence Section. And Forward to A.P.G. Museum PER:: O.T., S.T II, Little Creek, VA. as well as "For ARVN: General Mihn" I have looked online and have not come up with much. I am curious about the history of this banner. Would anyone have any ideas on how I can find out more about it? Any Help would be appreciated. Highest Regards Rob Guy

manayunkman Posted February 18, 2022 Share #5 Posted February 18, 2022 I’m sorry it’s not an NVA banner but it could still have something to do with SEALS. It could be some private joke from a training exercise or who knows. It made me laugh. What is an Absentee Indicator for?

Appears to be flown when a commanding officer is absent from a shop that is nit underway. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/navy/nrtc/14243_ch10c.pdf
Robski Posted February 19, 2022 Author Share #9 Posted February 19, 2022 Thanks for the great information. I know there was some story behind it, and I would like to find out what that was someday. Cheers Rob
