MasonK Posted February 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2022 This pin was included in a grouping to a vet who served with the 101st (overseas 6/1944-10/1945). It looks like a DUI, and figured it was French or German made, base on the type of pin/catch. Kept searching, and was unable to find a US connection, but though it may have been related to a Free French RAF Fighter Squadron. Found a similar pin for sale on eBay as such, but seller could be mistaken. I however realized this is the coat of arms for this region of France (guess I should have looked at that first!). I then switched gears, and started check souvenir pins, and found some similar, but not exact. Most were from the 50's, so after the vets overseas service, however there is always the possibility he visited Europe later (he was originally from Austria). Was hoping someone may be familiar with this pin, and could help me confirm if a US or foreign DUI, or just a souvenir piece, maybe even given out after VE day? the vet was in Berchtesgaden after the war; not a far stretch from Alsace... Thanks in advance!

Thought I may have had a limited/unique DUI. Delusions of grandeur! Still a cool piece that further corroborates the vet's overseas service.
