Grenade Adaptor?

I hate to be the barrer of bad news, the grenade is a Chinese made fake, aka gunshow grenade. The other part is a modern M1A2 rifle grenade adapter. The M1A2 adapter is not for that type of grenade as well. The adapter is usually about $30, and the grenade is about $15.

could the grenade be a repainted practice grenade with the correct fuse/spoon. And if the launcher is modern why does it say 1945? just curious

No, the grenade is 100% a fake/replica. The fuze and spoon are modern, either a M213 or M228, used on the M67 and M69 grenades, not a Mk2. The rifle adapter is dated 3-69, the 1945 date is the original date before it was modified from a M1 to a M1A2. Original M1 from the 1940s will have 4 prongs, not 3.

that stinks. Can't win all the time I guess.

Yeah sometimes you have to learn the hard way, we all have been there. You can always post before you buy and get suggestions on stuff your not sure of, there are many people in forum that can help.

The launcher was developed in WWII, this one in 1945, but it is dated March 1969. The WWII adapters had four gripping claws (for the grenade) and many of them were converted during Vietnam with three claws, by removing one and spacing them 33-degrees apart. If yours is one of the modified ones, you will see an empty screw hole around the body.

I believe the earliest 3 prong launchers are dated 1945, uncommon, until the more common 50’s dated models. As mentioned earlier the OPs is the modified Vietnam era adapter.

That is correct. I have a 1945 dated M1A1 adapter

Are you sure its not 1945 modified in the 60s? Its a M1A1 and those didn't come out till Korea I thought. Most M1a1s are dated 45 with a modified date in the 60s, thus they are not 45 dated 3 prong. The M1 adapter came out in 43, with dates 44 and 45, I havent seen any later dated than 45 and was used until after Korea when they went to the 3 prong with the adoption of the new style grenades(M26s, M34, etc).

Not modified in any manner. I believe I have another one with sideways lettering too, but this one was on my phone.

Nice that is the first I have seen with that orientation, very cool. Does not look modified at all, true gem there! I thought I had collected them all, but dont have that one, I even have XM1A1s with in the original box, which are early 60s dated so its weird to see an earlier one when they had a XM model years later.

Very Nice, I've not seen one that was marked sideways like that.

Here's an interesting crate that goes with this topic. Front of crate is Marked M1A2 Projection Adapter and dated 1968. Back of crate was marked M1 Projection Adapter and dated 1945 and had been painted over.

Very nice, early 4 prong. Atlantic Elevator company, 3 lots after testing-  lot 7 failed the ballistics acceptance proof tests. I’m not sure if the riveted models are production or test as I’ve only seen a couple before slotted screw were used. Thank you for posting. If you find another early 43 or riveted model I’d be interested. Regards

That is what looks like to be a replica M26 series "lemon" grenade.

Kaptainssurplus is correct, it is a replica M26 in a Vietnam era M1A2 projection adapter

Great information on the Lot Number and their testing.  Will do regarding if I see another but these are in the "hens teeth" category.
