hawkdriver Posted February 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2009 During WWII, there were three basic types of Garand grips. Wood as a hold over, the bakelite black, and the bakelite brown. The question is, when and who used the brown versus the black??? When seeing bayonets on eBay or other sale forums, you hear about the "rare" brown, but which companies used the brown and what time frame? bayonetman Posted February 17, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2009 Although there appears to have been some very small use of the brown (red) grips by other makers, the primary use of the brown grips was by American Fork and Hoe. This was only done in 1942 and early 1943 when they switched to black. Wilde Tool used a reddish brown grip with a black panel in the center. For further information on the grips, see the lower part of my Bayonet Points article: http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/bayo_points_23.htm
