An Overlooked Corpsman Marking?

As many of you know I am a corpsman collector and while researching this topic in Militaria I have noticed a marking that has (to my knowledge) only been seen with corpsman. This marking seems to be a triangle with a letter or possibly number inside of it. Could this have possibly been a specific marking of a marine division or beach party? And if so would anyone have an example?

This is another example I have found in the collection of a fellow member: He stated “Lower knapsack named to PhM2c Robert C. Cunney who was a member of Company D. 2nd Medical Battalion, 2nd Marine Division and saw action at Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa.”
