McDermut99 Posted January 26, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 26, 2022 In exploring local antique stores I came across this letterman jacket worn by a member of the 1954 Keesler AFB Tarpons baseball team. While it was beyond my price range and interests ($125 I believe), I figured I'd at least get some pictures and post it as a reference for anyone doing research. The jacket was in pretty nice condition, and the colors make it quite eye-catching. I've linked an article that mentions the team below. Unfortunately the jacket wasn't named that I could see. Keesler AFB is currently still an active AFB located in Biloxi, Mississippi. https://www.keesler.af.mil/ "A player and pitching coach, O'Neal played for the Keesler Air Force Base Tarpons against the likes of the semi-pro Biloxi Dodgers." https://www.milb.com/news/gcs-16564970 Hopefully someone can find this useful! The color is vibrant and the chenille patch is absolutely beautiful, that leather separation at the cuff is a huge detractor. Jackets like this sell around here for $80-100 in beautiful condition. That would be a $40 piece at best (at least for me).
McDermut99 Posted April 22, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted April 22, 2022 The jacket is still there when I visited the store the other day (big surprise), and I remembered I forgot to get a picture of the manufacturer's label so here y'all go. Made by Butwin, who seemed to have been a popular letterman jacket brand in the 50's.
