manayunkman Posted January 22, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 22, 2022 I’m with Lewis, that’s an M1 helmet but must admit that at first glance it looked Russian, I had to take a closer look. Its the lighting and shadow that distorts it’s appearance.
Eric Queen Posted January 22, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted January 22, 2022 Thank you Peter and Lewis. I appreciate it. Something about the helmet just looks "off" to me and agree that it looks Russian/Eastern Block at first glance. The reason I posted this in the Portrait section is because it came with this portrait. This is the guy on the left. Studio portraits of US service men with dogs are rarely seen. Probably not a working dog but a nice photo just the same. Thanks again.
Dirk Posted January 22, 2022 Share #7 Posted January 22, 2022 Eric it could be he is wearing another piece of headgear under the helmet?

Marchville1918 Posted January 23, 2022 Share #10 Posted January 23, 2022 my guess is that the chin strap is fastened across the back of the helmet and that combined with the fuzzy picture make the helmet look odd. they don't look like they are clowning around so I'm not going with the helmet backward
