Received a surprise unsolicited gift in the mail today from the Cherokee Nation.  Due to the covid situation over the past year, we were unable to hold or participate in our annual events, including the Cherokee Nation Veterans Day observance.

Quite the surprise when I opened the large package received today and found this Cherokee Warrior blanket inside with a card and letter.

Osiyo,

Your Warrior Blanket is a great honor to you and all Cherokee military veterans.  Congratulations!

My GGF served in Co. E., 2nd Regt. Indian Home Guards (Cherokee) during the Civil War.  He enlisted on 11 November 1862 as a Private and fought in the pivotal Battle of Honey Springs, I.T.  He was medically discharged in 1863 with a gunshot wound to the spine.  Due to his service to the US and Cherokee Nation I am a lineal member of the Sons of Union Veterans.
