GOAmules Posted January 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2022 Antique find this weekend: Civil war vet's framed etching of the house General Lee surrendered in at Appomattox. The back reads, Springfield, Mo July 18, 1900 E. C. Stephenson Co. D 36th Vol Age 68 We researched and think this is Sgt. Elijah C. Stephenson, note the headstone and obituary. He was active in the GAR (Civil War Northern veteran's group) and died in 1910. Print is in original frame and glass. Poor condition. Etching probably by Ernest C. Rost, and the print is copyright Albert Fries; 1895 NY. Fun to research for just $20. This vet probably had this picture given to him as a gift at a reunion or such. It's also signed but unreadable by who. https://www.findagrave.com/.../68421491/elijah-c-stephenson
