cagedfalcon Posted January 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2022 A few weeks ago I was asking about A-11 Flight cap & headsets....well out of the blue a picker called me with these. From looking at them, none of them will work for my needs or do I just rewire a set? Looking for advise to help setup & to what the use of the different types are for. Thanks, Paul
pararaftanr2 Posted January 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2022 Well, it looks like you found a nice A-11 helmet. A repair to the broken rear goggle strap retainer would be very easy with any type of cement for leather. Also, when worn, the leather chinstrap threads through the metal buckle on the wearer's left side, not through the hole in the leather covered Bennett buckle quick-release tab by the way. See below. As for the proper headset, that was illustrated and described for you in your original inquiry about A-11s and headsets a few months ago. If you are anxious to get one, they are available on ebay and range in price from $125 to $189.50 currently. Just search for "AN-B-H-1". As for the headsets of various vintage you posted here, they are all "over-the-head" style and not intended for installation in flying helmets. Good luck! dmar836 Posted January 13, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 13, 2022 Most of those would be okay for the period but would likely pick two and mash them up into one configuration depending on the receivers and cups. The frames are all likely period but I just don't care for the off color or plastic covering. Unfortunately that's where the brown cups are. A different issue is the A-11 and pressed in receivers. Dave P.S. Let me know if you get the brown cups(bottom middle) and decide to use the receivers for the helmet. I'd like a set of those!
cagedfalcon Posted January 14, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted January 14, 2022 Thanks to another thresd here om USMF, I got some tips on installing the ear pieces into the stiff rubber holders. Sanitizer, a pick & a ton of thumb pressure. Unscrewed the ring sections & inserted first then added the main part. I know the lead is incorrect but just until I find a correct one.
