Salvage Sailor Posted January 12, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 12, 2022 Studio RPPC with no names nor details - overexposed so difficult to scan thus I've cropped the sides to reduce the glare. Three men in Khaki uniforms sitting in wicker chairs, the center soldier with what looks like 1902 Artillery collar brass. No other insignia visible. All three with different foot gear and what appear to be two different colored Pith Helmets. Photo taken in China, the Philippines or perhaps elsewhere? Details below. Cropped group photo Left side Right side Center Higher resolution Center HRes Center collar brass, epaulets, bellows pockets Left soldier Pith Helmet Right Soldier Pith Helmet Center HRes Group photo - it looks like their right hands are burned, but that may be the overexposure. So take your best guess, who are these guys and where are they?
ludwigh1980 Posted January 12, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 12, 2022 Certainly could be China. There are numerous images of the soldiers from the 15th Infantry in Tientsin China wearing pith or summer helmets. In the Philippines, they were worn as well. Very cool image. ScottG Posted January 12, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 12, 2022 Can't say where but it is interesting that the left guy is in shirt sleeves with leggings and breeches, the right guy is in shirt sleeves with straight leg trousers and the center guy appears to have a turn down collar on his jacket and perhaps an insignia on the collar about 2-3" back which leads me to believe he may not be US? That said it could just be a shadow as the uniform looks US. Scott
Dirk Posted January 12, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 12, 2022 My vote would be for the Philippines as the Army had no artillery units over in China after 1901. Also the rattan chairs are another clue imho to location. BTW great portrait!
