Pro Libertate Posted January 11, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2022 Hey, guys and gals. I've got a couple of shells I'd like to attach some NOS OD7 chinstraps to. I found a saddle maker that has offered to bartack them for me, but I'm having a difficult time finding the appropriate thread color and size. I'd sure appreciate any information you could offer, or -better yet- a link to where I might find such an animal. Thank you!
Burning Hazard Posted January 11, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 11, 2022 It depends what look you’re going for, is it factory or field sewing? field or rigger sewing used all sorts of threads from a GI sewing kit and would typically be hand sewn in the field. Pro Libertate Posted January 11, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted January 11, 2022 Thank you both! I'd like the stitching to have a factory appearance. I'm not looking to fool anyone (both helmets are for my personal use and enjoyment), but I may utilize them in still life themed photographs with other WW2 militaria, and so I'd like them to look relatively authentic. ccmax Posted January 12, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 12, 2022 If he is going to use an industrial bartack machine then you're going to need a different kind of spool.
