After my introduction to the Forum, I’ll get the ball rolling with this rough and ready poncho that I purchased in 2012. It is a good example of what I look for in an item.

First Archer Rubber Co. contract NOM 28145

Named at the base of the collar to A.A MAYNER

320127 Alfred A Mayner, Co H, 2nd Batt, 6 Marines, 2 Mardiv.

This Marine enlisted in OCT of 1941 and by JAN ‘43 he was on Guadalcanal. Mayner is listed as being “in the field” with 6 Marines until JAN ‘45.

As can be seen from the photos, this poncho has been camouflaged at some point, both inside and out.

It is rough and ready, just as a combat Marines gear should be.

I am going to apply for his service records at some point, I’ll shoot a query to the research section of the forum for some direction.

Cheers,

Sean
