ksb86 Posted January 10, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2022 All- This last week I stumbled upon an online estate sale that was from the estate of Colonel Mitchell Paige. I wasn’t sure if it was legit or not but upon looking at the lots it looks like it is. Anyway I pulled the trigger on a few items and received them last week. I bought a helmet, uniform shirt and a signed picture in a a magazine of the flag raising on Iwo Jima. I’m still new to collecting this type of stuff so I’m not sure what I have here. I believe the helmet is a M1 Swivel bail with a front seam. It has the matching liner and chinstrap that seem to be original to the helmet. The shirt looks like a WWII era Marine Corp Herringbone Shirt. It has Sergeant stripes on the sleeve and it appears the front pockets might have been removed. The last item I was able to snag is a signed picture of the famous photo of the flag raising on Iwo. It is from Atomic magazine and I think it’s signed by James Bradley the author of Flags of Our Fathers. It is addressed to “Mitchell”. Anyway I’ll attach some pictures to see what the experts think. Of course none of the items have Paige’s name on them or his signature. At least not in the common spots. The estate sales company sent a letter stating the authenticity of the sale but I know that’s pretty easy to doctor. I found the sale on EstateSales.org and it appears it’s still up for a few more days. Thoughts?
