SWills Posted December 24, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2021 I found this case and shell among my late father in laws things while cleaning them up. I was wondering, what it is, does it have any value? Although, I would never sell it. I am a part time gunsmith and ammo reloader. It will go in my gun room. My father in law was in the navy, if that means anything. Oh, the shell and case do come apart and the shell looks like it is nickel plated or something similar. Thanks for any information you all might offer. Link to comment
Rakkasan187 Posted December 24, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2021 Welcome to the forum, This appears to be a 37mm M16 round. Looks to have a 1941 manufacturing date. This round was used with the 37mm M3 gun and also used in M3/M5 Stuart tanks and M8 Greyhounds. More experienced Ordnance/Munitions Collectors will be able to provide more specific details. Best regards, stay safe Leigh Link to comment
robinb Posted December 24, 2021 Share #3 Posted December 24, 2021 Leigh is correct about the shell. However, the projectile is something else. The rotating band may be missing as the projectile is seated too far into the case. Link to comment

robinb Posted December 24, 2021 Share #5 Posted December 24, 2021 Whatever it used to be, it's been cut down just above the rotating band. And chrome plated. Link to comment
