Wood Display Cases

Hi Guys

I'm looking into some custom display cases,and was wondering which types of woods should I avoid in the Constuction. If I remember correctly pine give of gases which can harm medals. Thanks in advance Jay

Oak seems to be classic choice for display cases. Any composite like fiber board, plywood, MDF,all use adhesive that may off gas.

So Red oak should be Fine?  How about cedar?  Any other safe woods?  Jay

Also just wondering is curly maple good as a display case wood.  How about cedar. Thanks in advance for you help

here is a thought

 

i use barrister bookcases

they are well built to hold weight, i have sanded and repaired them, and apply finish to my taste

they are cheaper than buying glass, wood , hardware and your labor.  the price goes from 30 dollar a section, i have found them cheaper at garage sales

they come in different heights, and widths and depths and different types of woods

they keep the dust off and can be stacked to whatever height you want

look for the old ones, not the modern type
