Japanese Type 44 cavalry carbine 11th A/B bring back

511th PIR Mess Sgt. Samuel Medlock brought this back after his occupation duty in Japan. The rubberized sling is held on with pieces of copper crimped around it. Ground mum like you would expect from a surrendered rifle.

Great rifle! Here’s a photo of Medlock back in 1943. Your rifle likely came from “the pile” when the 511th landed at Atsugi in August 1945. The Japanese forces there put their rifles in one pile, bayonets in another, and swords in another. Officers and enlistedmen lined up for souvenirs. I’ve been told depending on your rank determined which pile you could pick from. This type 99 rifle was taken in collection by a member of H/511. Note the nearly identical mum removal
