Your rifle likely came from “the pile” when the 511th landed at Atsugi in August 1945. The Japanese forces there put their rifles in one pile, bayonets in another, and swords in another. Officers and enlistedmen lined up for souvenirs. I’ve been told depending on your rank determined which pile you could pick from. This type 99 rifle was taken in collection by a member of H/511.
