Persian Gulf Command Posted December 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2021 I have to share an unusual ordnance item I just obtained. It's an No. 36 Mk 1 Grenade painted ordnance yellow. The paint is absolutely original and is exactly like that of all U.S. HE grenades from c. 1933-42. I have never seen a Mills in this paint scheme before. Please share your thoughts. Link to comment
GLCC74 Posted December 21, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 21, 2021 Very nice item, I have never seen one painted like that either. No idea on why it would be like this, perhaps for recognition for US forces training with UK/commonwealth forces? Link to comment
Persian Gulf Command Posted December 21, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted December 21, 2021 In the last few days, I have made contact with a British Mills Bomb Collector. He told me that years ago a friend obtained some ordnance, which Aberdeen Proving Grounds was removing from their inventory. In this grouping were a few U.S. ordnance yellow painted Mills Bombs. The assumption is that my example could be from this grouping. So, as you stated some sort of cooperative US/UK commonwealth training exercise could be a plausible explanation. BTW, the British collector states this is the first yellow Mills Bomb he has seen as well. Link to comment
GLCC74 Posted January 5, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 5, 2022 Hopefully at some point you find out the story behind it. Nothing like a good mystery. Link to comment
