Greetings,

I have a new found interest in WW2 theater made patches. Can anyone recommend good book(s) on the topic. I'm looking for a book that wi help me know.what to look for and that has good pictures of these type of patches.

I have read several of these forum threads with great interest. I may have seen a book referenced but could not retrace my steps to find it.

Thank you in advance.

Books typically are written on topics. Sometimes those topics may include variations of patches.you have to define your area of interest first.

Joining ASMIC is your best best. Once a member, you can read all the issues ever pubbed (back to 1937).  Hundreds of theater made patches. We have one issue of The Trading Post, that has 112 pgs, literally hundreds of patches, and a large chunk are TMs.

While there is no ONE book on theater made patches, the Keller brothers have written several books on patches, usually broken up by unit ID, i.e., Corps & armies, Divs 1-30, Rangers, Airborne, etc (in general). They are chock full of TM patches.

The value of your collection is in your resources, not what you “collect”.

Join ASMIC, buy some books, get yourself something YOU want for Christmas.

Dave (tredhed2) spoke before I did.

The book on "theater made" or "local made" patches has yet to be written.

As stated, the books by the Keller brothers are an excellent resource that includes theater made patches.  You can find them on Amazon.com.  It looks like used copies can be had for a reasonable price.

I think they also have one on Airborne patches as well.

You will have to correlate where the units served to get a feel for the styles that were specific to certain countries.

You will find local made patches from England, Germany, Italy, Japan, India, Australia, and other locales.  Of course many of these were made after the war was over.

The Army Air Force had patches made in some rather exotic locations as well.

And of course, I also recommend joining ASMIC.

Good luck.
