Capt.Confederacy Posted March 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2009 Repro. The plastic sounds like a kind of glue that many modern patches have to allow the user to iron them on instead of sewing them.
ehrentitle Posted March 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2009 They could be police or private military academy chevrons.
gwb123 Posted March 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 4, 2009 During the 1980's, there were a number of these floating around with an odd, lighter thread used for the border stitch. I don't think they have ever been satisfactorily explained. Jim McDuff's book "Selected US Army Insignia of the Vietnam War" noted that rank chevrons were made with black, OD, and an "odd forest green" shade, and this might be what you have. But I am not sure that I have seen rank chevrons with this shade actually worn on a uniform.
1stDivVet Posted March 6, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 6, 2009 The originals weren't plastic backed. I have several different variations. The only ones I have hadf with a plastic back were sold as repops. Fins.
