mvmhm Posted December 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2021 ..and last but not least, the Ike jacket, doco, photos and other artifacts of Corporal John "Jack" Warner, who served in the European Theater during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. His brother served in a nearby Division during the Battle of the Bulge, and Jack's unit laid down smoke to cover his brother's position. Thankfully both returned home in 1945. Also included was Jack's military papers, birth, and death certificates. No research needed this time. Wanda with Jack's uniform and one of the photos - he was her mother's sister's husband's brother...whew. Note the brown item with silver snaps buttoned around the hanger - more on that later. mvmhm Posted December 1, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted December 1, 2021 I'm going to skip the doco since it's getting late and my eyes are on fire, but she included some original and copied photographs....
mvmhm Posted December 1, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted December 1, 2021 This is the brown item snapped around the coat hanger - a German canteen cover. Wanda said she never saw the canteen, so it was a little bit of a mystery... The canteen cover was found to hold some small German souvenirs - a German Fire Police Eagle (now heavily mothed), a German Army Senior Corporal chevron and a German soldier's collar tab cut from the uniform. There's also an extra Army Good Conduct Medal lapel pin, a ticket stub, and a small sweetheart pin. Note the German made bullion embroidered HQ ETO Communications Zone patch. I believe the small sweetheart pin is a joke that the husband is allowed to speak once a year, in a leap year...

Brian Keith Posted December 1, 2021 Share #6 Posted December 1, 2021 Very nice group! What is that DI? Was he in a 4.2 chemical mortar unit? Thanks for posting it! BKW
mvmhm Posted December 1, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted December 1, 2021 As for the DI, I've only found a few photos that says it's the "Chemical Corps", I was hoping one of the experts would use their DIU-fu to identify it. Yes he was a chemical mortarman.... Mark sends

mvmhm Posted December 1, 2021 Author Share #10 Posted December 1, 2021 I wish he was alive to ask about the hodge podge of insignia...especially since he was discharged as a member of the 355th Infantry Regiment. Thanks for the info though. Mark sends
