JerryTheGerman Posted November 29, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2021 A few days ago my 14-450 corpsman bag got here (thanks to vintage productions) and it was the final bag (if you don’t count the S-14) to my corpsman bag collection!
Justin Posted November 29, 2021 Share #2 Posted November 29, 2021 The bag far right is very nice, can you share more photos of it? Nice collection.
JerryTheGerman Posted November 29, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted November 29, 2021 Of course! It’s a unit-3 bag (I’m using a towel as a place holder) it was used in the last battles of the war (from my knowledge) but saw most use in Korea. 5 hours ago, Justin said: The bag far right is very nice, can you share more photos of it? robinb Posted November 29, 2021 Share #4 Posted November 29, 2021 Your Unit 2 bag is for the Dental Officer. By S14 I'm assuming that you mean S14-075 Kit Parachutist.
JerryTheGerman Posted November 29, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted November 29, 2021 Do you know what a dental officer would use? Also yes I was referring to the Parachutist Kit.

Ray42 Posted December 3, 2021 Share #15 Posted December 3, 2021 I think there are also medic bags made from permanently modifying lower packs with a belt. The collector who told me this didn’t offer any evidence to support his claim that it was a known modification used by corpsman but one of my two named examples of this field modification had a potential match to a corpsman with the 1st Marine Div if I remember correctly so it seems possible. Totally plausible, marines and troops in general will use what they feel meets the needs of the job and is also comfortable to wear. I have also seen the lower pack carried in hand as a bag rather than a pack ! - Dean

Justin Posted December 4, 2021 Share #19 Posted December 4, 2021 The OD#7 Unit 3 bag is really nice. I have one in ratty condition in #3, that's one of the nicer ones I've seen. Thanks for sharing!

JerryTheGerman Posted December 7, 2021 Author Share #21 Posted December 7, 2021 Made a interesting discovery today while looking through a 1943 “Hospital Corps Quarterly” and saw an strange variant of the 14-280 bag. And this got me thinking if the 14-280 was actually not as early as we though and may have been a early 1942 through mid 1943 production and not pre-war as thought. JerryTheGerman Posted December 7, 2021 Author Share #22 Posted December 7, 2021 And I believe Gun Barrel has the only example of one of these bags:
robinb Posted December 7, 2021 Share #23 Posted December 7, 2021 Jerry, that's not a 14-280 bag. Warner's book misidentified the Pouch, Hospital Corps, Small, as the 14-280. This has all been covered in the pinned discussion about the 14-280 bags.
robinb Posted December 7, 2021 Share #24 Posted December 7, 2021 And the 14-280 bag is listed in the 1940 Supply Catalog.
