Is this a "real" helmet net?

I've had this net sitting around for a while, assuming that - as with so  many such nets - it is something someone adapted for a pretend helmet net. So, am I right, is this just another fishing net gone bad? It's about three feet square when stretched out.

Yes it is. It is British made but these were used extensively by U.S. troops in WWII as well as by other allied nations into the 1960's. It is however, missing the drawstring which would be woven around the outside perimeter.
