DutchInfid3l Posted February 14, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2009 I had seen these on eBay, bid on them just it see what they were if I happened to have won it, of course, didn't. But I still would like to know if anyone has seen these and might know what they were.Cadet rank maybe? Thanks in advance!
Bluehawk Posted February 14, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2009 As far as I know these are simply unused boards, at this point. Nice ones, but new and without rank of any kind. I have a couple of sets just like those... with bullion officer ranks applied. Is anything printed or written on the underside? One of mine is from NS Meyer. These are a blank set of USAF officer mess dress boards. Since they have the black background, they're pre-1981 when the AF used the summer and winter mess dress uniforms. I've never seen a set without rank before. -Frank

I wouldn't have thought of it that way. I don't have these myself, I lost the bid so I don't know what the underside has. But thanks for an idea of what it was, kept poking at me. JBFloyd Posted February 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 14, 2009 Possibly for officer trainees, although in my class (graduated Feb '70), we wore our everyday OT shoulder boards on the one occasion we worn mess dress. Our boards were completely blank, with silver stripes to denote rank for upper classmen.
HolyHappiness Posted February 25, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2009 They're shoulder boards for an officer's mess dress tunic. My fathers has the exact same ones on his, except they have rank of course.
