indept Posted November 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2021 I recently acquired the following Jungle Jacket, dated 1967. It's missing its SSI and and a patch above the US ARMY tape. I was hoping you could help me identify the missing patches. I guess the patch on the right arm would be a 101 Airborne Division patch, with seperate Airborne tab. The one above the US ARMY tape seems to be a CIB. However the dimensions seem a bit off/a bit large (L=3,75 inch, H=1,2 inch). The one on the left shoulder is a bit of a mystery to me. Dimensions are L=2 inch, H=2,75 inch. Would be great if you could add a picture for reference.

ScottG Posted November 25, 2021 Share #3 Posted November 25, 2021 Above the US Army may be pilot wings. Scott

I've checked some period photos of the 11th Cav patch 'in action', but its quite a large patch. Definitely larger than the imprint and marks left on the sleeve. Also, as the combat patch is probably 101st Airborne, I wonder if someone from the 101st would go to 11th Cav.
FT.Monmouth1943 Posted November 25, 2021 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2021 I would imagine it’s pilot wings with a 101st AB and 1st Aviation Brigade patch. - Jakob
patches Posted November 26, 2021 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2021 It could very well of been a CIB there, it larger size just being the way the edges were folded under when it was sewn, making for a longer view. How about rank, is there ghosting on the collars? cause if this was a pilot he'd be either a Commissioned Officer or a Warrant Officer, unless he was an Aircrewman, not seeing ghosting of sleeve ranks, still there might of been metal rank pins. Thanks for the feedback. There's no ghosting on the sleeve or collar. Also there are no pinholes to the collar. My guess would indeed be a CIB as well. The folding indeed makes sense. This leeves me with the patch on the left shoulder. I was first thinking MACV, as the ghosting is roughly the same size as a MACV patch. However the top of the ghosting in straight instead of curved, as is the case with a MACV patch. There are of course quite some options left, but if you have any suggestions that would be great and might narrow it down.
bummer Posted November 27, 2021 Share #8 Posted November 27, 2021 i guess it would depend on when the coat was issued. Remember they were authorized in the early 80's before the hot weather bdu came about. It could be the 1st Aviation Bridage or even the 6th Cavalry Brigade or the 38th Division
