eagle mtn Posted November 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2021 Hi all, a thousand pardons if this is the wrong place for this kind of post. I found this the other day at a local antique store. Just wondering what the bucking bronco insignia on the side is. The other side is the well known 3rd army patch. This is the only picture i have for the time being. Thanks a ton everyone

CavalryCombatant Posted November 25, 2021 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2021 I know nothing about WWI helmets but I love the look of it. I second Austin’s question.
aef1917 Posted November 26, 2021 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2021 I would need to see some more photos, but this looks like the work of a prolific recent helmet painter.
bbmilitaria Posted November 27, 2021 Share #7 Posted November 27, 2021 Agree with aef1917, the lettering looks just like his work.

aef1917 Posted December 28, 2021 Share #10 Posted December 28, 2021 I don't know his name, just his work. Maybe some of our members out there on the plains do.

aef1917 Posted January 17, 2022 Share #12 Posted January 17, 2022 I'd always heard he was from Nebraska and when I googled him, the helmets that came up look like what I associate with these helmets.
Chris Miller Posted January 19, 2022 Share #13 Posted January 19, 2022 Bingo. Ken Hegwood. He appears to use a plotter cutter to make the stencils. The lettering consistency is perfect. The lettering in the example above appears to be the font Arial in the rounded version. This was designed/copyrighted in 1982. If he truly painted even half of the number of helmets claimed in the article then there’s a lot of helmets out there. Hopefully they are all this obvious. And I hope he identifies them clearly as the tribute pieces they are.
