Trevor M. Larson Posted November 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2021 I’ve had this grouping for awhile now but have been at a loss as to how to properly post this group. There’s likely more photos I’ll have to add later but I feel this is a good start Robert Hubbard of Springville Indiana joined the army in February 1943 (before he even finished high school) and soon found himself in Service company, 511th PIR, 11th Airborne. He was very well liked as there’s numerous letters from neighbors, townsfolk and others attesting to his good character. He was especially fond of his mother Eris Hubbard. Nearly all items sent back home and all surviving letters from him or to him are involve her. Unlike many in his regiment he didn’t complete jump school in the summer of 1943. He went overseas on the USS seapike in May 1944 and found himself in New Guinea. He got permission to own a sidearm but it’s not clear if he ever did have one. He would finally become a certified paratrooper on sept 2, 1944 and then drown November 5 1944. He was just 20 years old. This grouping is extremely large and I’ll do my best to post its most interesting aspects
