Recently acquired this blade as part of a lot and was wondering if that type of “customization” would have been done back then or later on.

also, since I am not a civil war guy, I will put it for sale soon and was wondering what would be good selling price

thx for help

I'm not certain that one is complete... But during WWII it was a well known part of the war effort to modify Patton Sabers, and other earlier swords into combat knives.

I'd put a grip on it and keep it. I'm also thinking it was probably on it's way to becoming a WW2 fighting knife. Is WW2 included in your areas of interest? Is the end of the tang threaded?

Interesting. Never heard of that.

Was there such a big surplus of civil war swords available back then that they would just cut them to make knives?

I am not a blade guy, so I’ll probably sell it. Any idea how much , I could ask?
