fight Posted November 18, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2021 Here's another one that I happened upon. Found it online with poor pictures and thought it was just a nice Korean/Vietnam era AB helmet. Couldn't even see the captains bars on the shell and liner. After a little bit of Googling it turns out this vet was also a career military guy and had two tours in the Korean War and "numerous" tours during the Vietnam War in Special Forces. Dang, pretty sweet. The preliminary info I can find on him is that he was wounded in 1950 with a compound fracture in the head/face/neck and treated in Japan (No Purple Heart mentioned on his gravestone though). Then in 1965 he was a member of Recon Team Dakota starting on September 15th of 1965, only 6 days before the Pentagon authorized MACVSOG to operate across the Laos border. Neil was awarded the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. I feel like he had some pretty impressive stories to tell. The icing on the cake though, is the seller provided the phone number of Neil's son, so I will be reaching out to him shortly to see if I can continue the story! - Alec U.S., World War II Hospital Admission Card Files, 1942-1954 - Ancestry.com.pdf

dmar836 Posted November 18, 2021 Share #10 Posted November 18, 2021 Yeah, never though about a Buddhist mark for headstones. There are a bunch available. Not sure how long this many have been "authorized" for govt headstones. https://www.cem.va.gov/hmm/emblems.asp
