The second invasion of Iwo Jima 1954

In 1954 60,000 sailors and Marines invaded Iwo Jima again. I found some 1950's color film negatives and they were neatly indexed in small  envelopes with the location and unit typed on each envelope. The one marked "IWO JIMA" caught my interest. Also typed on it is unit info for Ordnance Service Company, 3rd Service Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Researching that info led me to using those photos to help illustrate this 1954 invasion.  Here's the video I made:

THANK YOU Bob, for taking the time & effort to share this apparently little known event with us all. I personally appreciated it, as I had no previous knowledge of it.

US Victory Museum

Interesting bit of history.    I kept thinking to myself, "I swear that I've seen that gentleman on another TV show before."

However, I was mistaken.   It turns out that the guy I thought he looked like wore an eye patch.

😁

Thankfully I didn't have to wear that forever!

These photos came from large format color film negatives and  laid them on a light table and photogarphed them with an iPhone 13. I shot them "as is" with no dust cleaning and in Photoshop and adjusted color. Color negatives have an orange cast that has to be removed.
