Matched Captains Helmet with Overpainted Red Band

I recently picked up this matching set named to a Dale Gibson Foster (O-1785701). He was in the Army Medical Corps and was promoted to Captain on May 15th, 1945.

This helmet has some interesting details. It appears he modified his J-hook strap to lengthen it and his pre-officer serial number is stamped on the other chinstrap. The liner has a camo with a clear seal overtop to protect it.

If you look closely there is a 1-3/4" to 2" red band that wraps the helmet shell that was overpainted. I was interested in others opinions on this, or if there's period photos of a red band on Medical personnel?

Great looking set Alec. I’m on the lookout for a nice captain set as well. Well done

The German army used red clip-on bands during maneuvers, for what it's worth...
