Tom Kibler Posted November 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2021 I consider it extremely rare nowadays, to buy items straight from the vet’s family with stunning provenance. Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to do just that. Most of the items in the trunk I will post separately on different threads and different sub forms. But this was one GIs bring back booty. Enjoy.
Tom Kibler Posted November 13, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted November 13, 2021 Included in this grouping are two sets of capture papers listing everything in the trunk. Additionally in the original photo album, are. Photos of the vet holding the helmet and gas mask.
sundance Posted November 13, 2021 Share #3 Posted November 13, 2021 That is one nice group. Looking forward to seeing pics. Is that a cigarette case - German? Is that a flask below the soldier's pic?
Tom Kibler Posted November 13, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted November 13, 2021 The item below the photograph is the head of a German 88 shell that was shrapnel he brought home. The other item is a metal cover to a Bible.

sundance Posted November 13, 2021 Share #8 Posted November 13, 2021 Well I guess I blew it on both calls. Can I ask how you managed to get this group. Do you advertise or know the family or did you just get real lucky?
sundance Posted November 13, 2021 Share #9 Posted November 13, 2021 Needless to say the box itself is a wonderful find. What does the label on the box say?

Tom Kibler Posted November 14, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted November 14, 2021 Thanks all!!! I have a pretty full weekend, so next week for more photos…. As far as how I acquired it, I have my father to thank for a lot of it. He taught me how to go out and make connections with people. Ultimately, an old deFunk fleamarket friend reached out to me to connect me with this gentleman. Had my father never brought me to the flea market, this never would’ve happened. He taught me the love of history and the personal connection with each of the artifacts. And… I got really lucky. I also consider it a privilege to honor the veteran. He was local to the area where I live. Most of my collection is just that, from local veterans and families that I knew.

Tom Kibler Posted November 14, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted November 14, 2021 It is difficult to see, but the photo of the helmet is at his feet. He is holding some sort of Luftwaffe pennant. The back of the photograph says, “a German grave “.

No worries or doubts of suspicion with this nice SD luft. helmet... Glad that you are the caretaker of this Veteran's grouping Tom.. Wise words from your father as well..
