Residence Bloomington IL; 

 

Enlisted on 5/25/1861 as a Private into "E" Co. IL 14th Infantry 

 

He Re-enlisted on 12/12/1863
He was transferred out on 7/20/1864 into "A" Co. IL Vet Battn. He was transferred out on 3/24/1865, into "A" Co. IL 14th Infantry 

 

He was Mustered Out on 5/30/1865

 

He was listed as:

* Survived explosion 4/27/1865 Steamer "Sultana", Memphis, TN

(Last name:  Epperitus or Ebenetus)

That’s another rare and historically significant grouping that you have! Michael Dougherty, a Civil War Medal of Honor recipient that lived in a house near me was also an Andersonville and Sultana survivor. He wrote a book on his experience.

Mark, you fan contact Andersonville to see if they have info or a file on your guy. They have individual files on some of the prisoners of war. Again, great piece.
