I like the Newport News medal in particular because the Victory Arch on the obverse is still standing. There are only a few of the town and county medals that feature buildings or other structures in their designs. Yes, I saw your post with a picture of the arch - great to see the feature on a medal in real life

I wonder how many have actually survived..?

It's currently listed on eBay right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165706725214 I figured I'd post it here for posterity just in case it isn't purchased by a forum member. On a side note, does anyone know if there's a list for WWI Maryland Service Medals or was there just the State Issued one as referenced in this thread? It did go to a member in the end, that was me that bought the Victor, NY medal. It did seem like a once in a lifetime chance to get one. Rob

Came with the service number on pink slip of paper and is the father of an AAF aerial gunner. I have his group and this was in it. Can anyone tell me by the service number what outfit he was in ? His last name should be Miller. Bill, Fulton County New York is a little ways North-West of Albany. I believe your medal is from the City of Fulton which is in Oswego County North of Syracuse.
SGT - E-4 Posted August 25, 2023 #131 Posted August 25, 2023 Mike - A remarkable set of medals, sure to be the envy of many. I've been at this now for about 3 years. Started hodgepodge, then went to Massachusetts (my home state), physically moved to Connecticut, which has a very nice set of its medals in the State Library, Decided I can't continue this, so now I pretty much just collect pictures! So, I thank you for those. I have both Small and Planck books. I integrated them and have my own "book" with some new pictures and still need some of those from Planck. I really admire the work that went into these collections and descriptions. Thanks again for your postings. They are invaluable to me. 5 years USMC in the late 50s. Never saw any action. Served as Marine Guard in Pakistan.
FlyNavy02 Posted November 19, 2025 #132 Posted November 19, 2025 Hi all, Adding another to this great thread. Dickson City, PA World War I Medal Recently found this World War I medal awarded by Dickson City, PA. In Richard L. Planck’s book (State, County, City, and Organization Medals for World War One) it is Whitehead & Hoag Type 1A (WH1A) with “UNITED STATES FORCES” on the banderol and the “1917-1918” dates. The reverse reads: “PRESENTED BY THE PEOPLE OF DICKSON CITY, PA IN GRATEFUL RECOGNITION OF PATROTIC SERVICES IN THE WORLD WAR.” Planck’s Appendix B (Medals reported to exist, but no confirming information) includes "Dickson". Have not found this medal documented elsewhere. Dickson City is a borough in Lackawanna County a few mile s north of Scranton. In 1920, the population was 11,000. Dickson City presented medals to its veterans on 11 September 1919. An article in the August 25 issue of The Tribune (Scranton) mentions that “The Boy Scouts have volunteered to canvass the town and secure the names, rank, and organization of each man who saw service. The committee plans to present each man with a medal and is very desirous of securing the names so that all may be taken care of.” The number of medals to be awarded was not given but 263 veterans gave Dickson City as their place of birth when submitting their Pennsylvania compensation forms during the 1930s. The Dickson City War Memorial lists the names of five men who lost their lives in the Great War. Best, Jay
bertmedals Posted November 19, 2025 #133 Posted November 19, 2025 Jay, Thanks for posting the Dickson City medal. That's another one you don't encounter very often so it's nice to see it. Dennis

Adub63 Posted February 1 #136 Posted February 1 New to this forum - got the bug after reading an article on WWI Service Medals in Military Trader last year. Am amazed at some of the previous postings and appreciate all you guys have done to collect and preserve these for the future. Thought I’d share the odd one or two I have that haven’t been featured previously to hopefully get some more dialogue going! Didn’t see this one mentioned above - it’s the City of Passaic NJ and this one is named to Albertis Den Bleyker. It was originally on eBay in a group, including his NJ state medal and his victory medal. I missed out on it (which happens a lot)! The following week however, the buyer had split up the set, was selling them individually, and was asking more for this one than the whole set had cost! Was disappointed to see it split up and to see the starting price for this one (which was still above my range). Kept watching it and after a couple of months it suddenly dropped to a number I was happy to pay so I grabbed it. I asked the seller if they still had the others in the original set (as they were harder to trace/recognize) but unfortunately the original grouping proved too hard to put back together. With this one named, I have a nice research project! Anyone else seen or got this one? Thanks Alan

I’ve see the City of New Britain CT medal in this posting advertised as WWII! I’ve included a photo of the reverse (which isn’t specific) and have also seen it posted as below in a page dedicated to CT Great War Medals: https://museumofcthistory.org/commerative-great-war-medals/ Can any members confirm that it is indeed WWI so I can look at adding it to my collection? Thanks Alan
