Quick question for all you patch guys, why’s this one look different?

Been really taking a hard look at my uniform collection lately, and re-found an old four pocket I bought years ago.  It’s patched to a gentleman in the 42nd ID and has a pacific campaign ribbon with three stars and an arrowhead.  Unfortunately it’s not named.

Ive always kind of wondered what these stripes were, I’ve looked quite a bit online recently with no luck finding them.  Is it fair to assume their theater made?  It appears they’ve been on the jacket for quite a long time.

I can post pictures of the full jacket if it’d help, but this is the only picture I have at the moment.

Thanks,

CC

I should add that I believe the patch is on felt.

Yes there are a few topics on this variant, they are U.S. Made, they show up sewn to various uniform items. A mid war to late war made type I would imagine, it was worn to be sure, in fact you can see this type in Uniforms Forum on a few M1926 coats and IKEs, don't know why it was produced like this, OD on Dark Green wool. Maybe it was made with idea it to be worn on HBT shirts???

For a long time, there were thoughts that these chevrons were Australian made, so you will still see some that call them that. The consensus now is that they are US made.

Patches- these wool/ felt patches were prone to shrink and to pill badly when laundered, so they don't hold up well on fatigue uniforms. The silver on blue twill chevrons were designed to be laundered and were prescribed for wear on the fatigue uniform, though you will find them sewn to OD wool as well.

Yes, that would be the case, I was just pondering the use of it, they looks so "Subdued" LOL. Man would love to see a dated box of these, a few dated boxes, that would go a long way in finding more on them.

Yean Billy I seen a Technical Sergeant rank in this OD on Green  at Church Street Surplus back in the day on a OD Wool Overcoat that had the 2nd Service Command patch on it, this was an indicator it was an American made type.
