Jpage Posted October 23, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2021 Not sure of the rules for posting a live auction, but there's a PRC-90 with an adapter to use SDU-5E batteries on an auction site. It appears to be factory-made, never seen anything like it. The 90 is Vietnam-era. Anyone have any knowledge of such a device ?

AZPhil Posted October 24, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2021 I used to test these when I worked at VMFT 401. (87-02) I have never seen a battery pack like that for use on the PRC-90's. Semper Fi Phil
mohawkALSE Posted October 28, 2021 Share #5 Posted October 28, 2021 I have to ask what makes you say that's a SDU-5/E type battery on that? The part numbers/ model number isn't the same. I'll agree it's some form of alternate battery and probably early on given those were 2 radios from a USAF 1970 contract, but I don't think it adapts a SDU-5 battery in any way. Those original batteries for the 5E were 5.2 volts. PRC-90 batteries were originally 14.0 volts and later the updated batteries were 10.2 or something like that. This might have been some old lithium battery update from that time to get away from mercury batteries.
