Primoris Scio Posted October 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2021 My 3rd great grandfather, Sergeant William Manning Voorhis, volunteered with the 83rd OVI on August 22, 1862 and served until August 10, 1865 when the regiment was mustered out and disbanded, for a total of 3 years in both Company I and Company G. The regiment fought in at least 11 named battles during the war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/83rd_Ohio_Infantry_Regiment https://www.ohiocivilwarcentral.com/entry.php?rec=1154 He was born on November 6, 1838 in Warren, Ohio and he died in 1923 while living in Jerome, Indiana. I am interested in learning about the type of patches, badges, etc. that he would have worn on his uniform at the time of his honorable discharge. He should have received the Civil War Campaign Medal, is there any way to determine when he would have had one issued to him? I would like to buy a vintage CWC medal at some point, so I need to know what to look for and avoid. This is a roster for the 83rd OVI and he is listed on pg. 35 (603) under Company G, excerpt below. https://civilwarindex.com/armyoh/rosters/83rd_oh_infantry_roster.pdf These are the 83rd OVI Regimental Colors: https://www.ohiomemory.org/digital/collection/flags/id/
