Airborne School Instructor M1C

So doing some research here on the forum, I understand this helmet to be an example of an instructor's helmet.

This one is outside of my general area of interest but I picked it up anyway. It looks a P64 liner and it's a rear seam. I want to say that Kevlar started being used at the Airborne school in 1984 or later, definitely no later than 1989.

I don't have this in hand yet so I can only show pics that I recieved.

Looks like what's left a brown side out twill mitchell cover will be sandwiched between the shell and liner. Pretty cool.

I think you're right. I just assumed from the pictures that liner was in rougher shape than portrayed. Looking forward to getting my hands on it.

I went to jump school in the summer of '85 and students were definitely still wearing M1C helmets.  I recall the instructors were as well but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Was 1985 the wear out date for the M1? I can't recall. I went to airborne school in 1997 and we were well and truly onto k-pot land by that time.

I finally have this helmet in hand. It has an Ingersoll heat stamp of "1 7594" and "CPT Livingston" written inside of it (which matches the name and on the helmet exterior). Interestingly enough, the liner has the ears of a Mitchell cover cut off and draped across it.

Looks like a way of snugging the liner to the shell. I'm researching the contract number on the Mitchell cover parts and the liner to get a better idea of when this was used. I think Ingersoll helmets were produced from 1965 to 1968 and this might be a later one.

CavalryCombatant

That is an awesome M1C!  I tried (and failed) to get one earlier this year, still on my list.

Really interesting how the Mitchell was used to snug the liner in, haven’t seen it done like that before.  For what it’s worth I believe the contract date on the Mitchell is 1974.

Thanks! I think you're right about the Mitchell cover.

Know anything about the liner? P64 with the riveted in A-washers from what i can tell.

Lid appears to be 1965-1968, the Mitchell cover remnants are 1974, don't see any stamps on the webbing inside the liner but I'm thinking pre-1973 and the sweatband is a Steinberg Bros version.

So Airborne instructor in the mid to late-70's helmet?
