wartimecollectables.com Posted October 12, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2021 Local estate buy this week! A scarce Confederate weapon that no doubt in excellent condition when it was left in the attic of a South Carolina veteran when he returned home after the Civil War. It has aged to a dark finish with even overall pitting and the cylinder is locked. No damage, and a good soaking will probably release the cylinder visible numbers matching, solid wood grips, and clear"LEECH & RIGDON CSA"barrel markings.Thomas Leech partnered in May 1862, with Charles H. Rigdon, to produce revolvers for the Confederate Government in Columbus, Mississippi. They produced about 1,500 revolvers at that location. The approaching Federal troops forced them to move to Greensboro, GA where approximately 1,000 more revolvers were produced before the partnership dissolved around December 1863. The pistol is a copy of the .36 cal. Colt Model 1851 Navy.
