Been searching for one of these for quite awhile. Finally found one on ebay. Flew the B 47 out of Smoky Hill AFB later called Schilling AFB. Really like the design

What is the "object" upon which the tiger is aviating? Over the years I've heard many opinions and guesses: "A flying drainpipe" "A jet-powered downspout" "A rocket-powered telescope" "A jet-powered periscope" etc. There must be an obvious answer. Attached is a version from the Wiki page. What do you think F-106 pilot?

According to the emblem's official description on page 470, Combat Squadrons of the Air Force (1962), the device upon which the tiger clings to for dear life is a "stylized black stovepipe". This representation of a jet engine symbolizes the 380th's conversion from props (B-29s) to jets (B-47s) which had occurred just prior to the insignia being approved on 10 January 1955.

Thank you! Finally the correct answer. I had forgotten the "old-timers" referred to the newfangled jets as "stovepipes".
