tonk Posted October 4, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2021 Looking for opinions & info on this helmet. Rear seam. The heat stamp reads M-126A I don't see any date/markings on the cover. I'm new to US and welcome being educated. Thank you guys for your expertise, I have been very impressed with this forum.
elh1311 Posted October 4, 2021 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2021 I know nothing about the USMC frogskin covers but the helmet itself is a Korean War-era produced McCord (1951-1953 generally speaking) and the liner is a Vietnam War-era P64 liner. CavalryCombatant Posted October 5, 2021 Share #3 Posted October 5, 2021 I have my doubts on the cover, but I’m not educated enough on them to say anything as a fact. The liner is also post 1974, as it has removable webbing.
manayunkman Posted October 5, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 5, 2021 Can you take better pictures of the stitching?
tonk Posted October 5, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted October 5, 2021 I got this with three other helmets/liners, so there is a chance the liners got swapped out by the estate sales people. They took everything apart to sell separately, all thrown in a pile. He was a collector too so he may have just thrown the cover on. This was the only front seam with WW2 liner I think (two holes in front). 1. Front seam with shiny paint with heat stamp of 7JA (backwards "J") over S 2. Rear seam with subdued "cork" paint, heat stamp I-6253 3. Rear seam, bright green paint. Heat stamp I-2202, bright green paint.
