McDermut99 Posted September 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2021 This piece was a recent pickup a local antique mall. Its approximately 2 inches wide and 2 inches tall. It's thin sheet metal pressed slightly convex into the shape of the USAF staff sergeant rank, with black paint on bare metal. The backside has a safety pin soldered to the metal. I've never seen this type of metal rank before, but I'm hazarding to guess that it was worn with fatigue caps or maybe winter headgear? Anyone happen to know anything about this type of rank insignia? I've not had any luck so far in finding more info.

That's a possibility, it seems like thinner metal than other types I'm seeing on here but I assume there was quite a bit of variation. You can also see along the top and bottom edge where it looks like it was cut by hand instead of an even line like along the sides where it was maybe cut by a press.
