Scottz63 Posted September 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2021 Mint in un-opened box. Caliber .30 AN-M2 for Browning aircraft machine gun I am reading. Not sure though. The headstamp on the opened box he had was dated 1956, if my old eyes could read it correctly. Lol
Scottz63 Posted September 25, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted September 25, 2021 Doing some more research, I think this is just standard issue 30-06 ball ammo. Anybody have a date for the lot number? The open box had a headstamp of 56 with the same lot number. I assume that's what this is.
917601 Posted January 24, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2022 If I recall correctly, the AN designation means Navy aircraft use.
Charlie Flick Posted January 28, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2022 AN means Army Navy. It explains that the ammo met both service standards and was suitable for use in the Browning AN M2 aerial machine gun which had a rate of fire somewhat higher than the standard M2. The AN designator was an attempt to bring commonality to standards to avoid overlapping and duplicative standards that would be inefficient.
