Supposedly members of the 29th Infantry on Okinawa 53 or so, but photographic evidence is non existent, with the Tab may be being a total fantasy thing.

For a detailed talk on the Korean War era 29th Infantry Regiment, see below, note that the first thing you'll notice is that this unit wore the Ryukyus Command shoulder patch and not the one posted by you which in those days was titled Fast East Command.

The one that began this thread is a repro.

The best idea about this patch and tab combo is that they were error patches made in anticipation of the activation (i.e., the XVIII Armored Corps of WW 2) or like the blue 74th RCT (instead of the correct red). The 29th IR recd campaign credit for the UN Defensive and was integrated w/ 27th IR Sept 1950. The 27th had a Raider unit but the regiment itself was never an RCT.

The 29th IR was assigned 23rd ID Dev 53 and relieved Mar 56.

It is also true that many of the KW "Raider" units were very small, platoon sized at best.  The attached patch & tab are an entirely USD-made patch and tab.

To reiterate the wear of the Ryukyus Command by the 29th Infantry back on Okinawa in 1952 etc.

An Okinawa Tab, this one described as Yellow on Blue, being worn above the Ryukyus Command by Corporal Jesus Rodriguez at a stateside (Believe Camp Roberts) Silver Star award ceremony. Rodriguez was an original member or the 29th Regimental Combat Team based on Okinawa, and with it was sent to Korea in late July 1950, the unit was destroyed, having survived the destruction of his 1st Battalion, he was transferred along with other survivors to form the basis of the 3rd Battalion 35th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. With Rodriguez wearing this patch and tab, it is assumed he was transferred over to Okinawa after he rotated out of Korea and served for however amount of time till he was finally sent stateside.

  • 3 weeks later...

This one just popped up and looks theater made so did they also make a bullion example in anticipation of activation or is this a fantasy fake item?
